Day 8 63miles Cendrieux to Chazelles
Feeling well rested after our stay at Chez Andy & Helen we decided to make an early start as it looked like another fairly challenging ride. We set off around 8.15am knowing that the first hour or so was relatively easy. The air was feeling much cooler and it was perfect cycling weather.
After 2 hours we made a brief roadside stop under a cherry tree laden with cherries which we couldn't resist!
Then at the next village I secured a pain au raisin (well I hadn't had one for a few days!!) and a coffee. This set me up perfectly for the next couple of hours and we powered on through with a fair bit of climbing which we seemed to take in our stride.
We were hoping to find a suitable pitstop for lunch around 1pm assuming we'd tackled most of the ride by then. The only problem being that for the most part today we were cycling through pretty isolated territory along the PΓ©rigord-Limousin Natural Regional Park (beautiful) and through tiny villages with little or no signs of life.
So we decided to head to our destination and hope for a supermarket/petrol station for some basic supplies instead. We found a little grocery store which served us a Salmon terrine with roasted new potatoes which was delicious and filled a big gap.
We washed it down with Orangina and headed for our B&B with some trepidation, as Max had "accidentally" booked for the 2nd time a "clothes optional" place to stay.
We checked in, watched the end of the tennis and an episode of Ozark. We began to relax as everyone seemed to be fully dressed. An exotic photo on our wall is the only sign of potential trouble.
Our Dutch host, Roland, has been stressing a lot about the gluten free meal that Max requested. Hopefully, it will be OK.
Just back from dinner now, what a feast!! We're both totally stuffed. It was delicious π
This is the half way mark for us, just 7 more days to go. We're getting more confident on the Tandem (51 mph today). Max is hoping to break 60mph by the end of the holiday π³
OMG! 51 mph! I was pleased with 30 down Bullbeggars today - not sure I'd stay on at 60 - fabulous effort. ππ
ReplyDeleteπ€£ well 30mph would definitely be my preferred speed Kerry, well done π. Max wrote that paragraph in the blog - I just added the π³
ReplyDeleteEnfin! Les cookies de tierce personne etaient blocked! π Yes, France can be a bit of a desert when you're looking for food - it has happened to us a few times on walking holidays and we've survived on bits I squirrelled away from breakfast till we reached the next hotel! Thank goodness little stores in France can still surprise you with delicious food like that! You are both doing valiantly!! Vivre le pain au raisin! π€£ππ
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear from you Rosie π. Yes we couldn't believe our luck really, it was a gift from heaven. I might have to start sneaking some supplies from breakfast π
